How To Stay In Great Shape While You Age - Body Transformation Studio

Age is a natural and unavoidable part of life. Unfortunately, despite their good intentions, most Australians speed up the aging process through incorrect exercise and poor food choices. So, how can you make sure that you stay in great shape and health during the 2nd part of your life? Read on…

If you are over the age of 40, you’ve no doubt noticed that you’re probably not as fit, strong, mobile and slim as you were in your 20s and 30s. It’s during their 40s and 50s that most people turn their attention and focus back to their health and appearance (now that the kids are a bit older and the work/life balance has improved).

Most will attempt any number of extreme diets, detoxes and supplements. Whilst these may have some impressive temporary results, they will sadly further ruin what is an already slowing metabolism due to the age process. Health and fat-loss in your 40s usually requires that you eat MORE food rather than less in order to stimulate your metabolism and ensure that you DON’T waste away any precious muscle tissue whilst burning fat stores.

And when it comes to exercise, a lot of over 40s look to complete endurance events such as marathons, swims and triathlons in an attempt to reclaim their youthful fitness levels and to gain a sense of self-achievement and accomplishment. Whilst admirable, these long endurance events place a lot of hormonal stress on the body. And whilst someone in their 20s and 30s has the healthy hormone levels to handle and recover from this stress, most people in their 40s and 50s will only experience further hormone damage and a resulting drop in metabolic rate.

At this stage of life a sensible resistance training program as well as some safe and effective interval cardiovascular exercise should be the main focus. As that really is THE best way to improve hormone levels and boost metabolic rate, leading to better long-term health and fat-loss results while you age.
